Step 18 – Finishing the Oak Surface
First the surfaces are sanded down smooth and then the faces that will be on the outside are painted. It is probably only worth finishing surfaces that you know will not need any further planing – as all the outside ones fit into that category we can get to it.
We used an ‘Osmo microporous country colour’ paint, which as well as having reasonable environmental credentials, claims to be extremely durable. I recruit Sam to help with some of the painting.
Between us we give it at least three coats (four on some bits), because we live in a coastal location and the front can get a battering by the weather. The insides will be finished after final fitting with clear Osmo UV protection oil.
